6.6kW vs 10kW: Which System Size Is Right for You?
Sunsolar Solutions Team · 15 July 2026
Two of our most popular residential sizes, compared side by side so you can see which fits your household.
Of all the questions we get asked, "should I go 6.6kW or 10kW" comes up the most. Both are excellent systems -the right one just depends on your home and how you use electricity.
A 6.6kW system is a strong fit for 2-3 bedroom homes, couples and small families with fairly typical daytime usage. It’s sized to comfortably offset a standard household load without paying for capacity you won’t use, and it fits neatly on most single-storey roofs.
A 10kW system suits larger households -think 4-5 bedrooms, a pool pump, ducted air-con, or a family that’s planning to add an EV. The extra headroom means you can run more of your home directly from solar during the day, rather than drawing from the grid.
If you’re on the fence, it’s worth thinking a few years ahead rather than just at today’s bill -a slightly larger system now can be cheaper than upgrading later. Our team can walk you through both options against your actual roof space and usage during a free assessment.
