How Much Can You Really Save With Solar in Australia?
Sunsolar Solutions Team · 1 August 2026
A realistic look at how solar pays for itself, based on typical household bills and system sizes.
Every Australian household’s electricity bill looks a little different, so it’s no surprise that "how much can I save with solar" rarely has a one-size-fits-all answer. What we can do is walk through the numbers the way we do for every customer who asks us the same question.
The biggest factor is how much of your usage happens during daylight hours. A household that runs the dishwasher, does laundry and charges an EV while the sun is up will offset far more of its bill than one that’s empty all day and only switches everything on at 6pm. That’s why we always ask about your daily routine before recommending a system size.
As a rough guide, a well-sized 6.6kW system on a typical Australian home can offset somewhere in the range of $1,700 to $2,100 a year, while a 10kW system suited to a larger household can offset $2,600 to $3,100 a year. These are estimates, not guarantees -your actual savings depend on your roof orientation, shading, and how your household uses power.
The fastest way to find your real number is a free site assessment, where we look at your roof, your recent bills and your usage patterns, and build a quote around your home specifically -not a generic package.
